  • Job Title:  Machinist Summary:  Under minimal supervision, this position utilizes manually and computer controlled machines, hand tools and measuring equipment. Work includes the fabrication, modification or repair of products sold by and tools used at Western Gage.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, other duties and tasks may also be performed):
    • Process parts to print or order specifications
    • Processes may include turning, milling, drilling, tapping, deburring
    • Provide input to engineering department on fabrication issues
    • Use gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements up to .0005 inches, inspect all work pieces in order to detect and remedy defects and insure conformance to specifications
    • Inspect provided material for appearance and conformance to requirements specified on work orders or prints before beginning and after completion of operation;  notify supervisor of any discrepancy or concern
  • Education and/or Experience:
    •  High School or GED; trade school or college a plus
    • Machining/machine shop experience
      • Language Skills:Effectively communicate and understand job instructions both verbally and written in the English language.  Ability to effectively interact with other employees in a professional and respectful manner.

        Mathematical Skills:

        Basic math, basic trigonometry

        Reasoning Ability:

        Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Monitor and review information from materials, events or the environment to detect or assess problems.  Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

        Physical Demands:

        Ability to stand for extend periods.  The machining process is hands on requiring dexterity with the hands and steadiness in the arms, shoulders and back.  Able to lift 40 lbs unassisted.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
